How to say work or job?

Salom!

Today I am going to learn new word which is kar. Kar means work. As far as I know, kar means do in Urdu. For this time being, I will just stick to kar means work. Example of the sentence which use this word is:

Shoma kar dar-id?

Do you have work?

That is the literal meaning for the sentence. It should mean what are you doing for your living? Or what is your job? To answer back, we might want to say:

Man doktur hastam

I am a doctor

Man mohandes hastam

I am an engineer
